Chairman, Nigerian National League side, Udala FC, Philip Udala, has been confirmed dead and his remains burnt by unknown gunmen in Anambra State, The PUNCH reports.
Philip was killed along with his club’s team manager, Godsent Eriobu, when their convoy ran into a squad of armed gunmen at Eke-Agu Market junction in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The gunmen had reportedly attacked a local police station and were fleeing the scene when they met the convoy of Udala in Abatete, our correspondent learnt.
Chairman, Anambra Independent Football League, Obinna Dike, who confirmed the death of Udala on Wednesday, said the amateur league in the state had lost two important members.
“So sad, our worst fears are becoming reality, we lost them,” Dike said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the incident but did not give details of casualties.
